Learning To Drive? How Teens Can Make The Most Out Of Their Driving Lessons

Posted on

As a teenager, it can be scary thinking about having someone else – a complete stranger – teaching you to drive. However, attending a driving school (such as Morgan School Of Driving Inc) is an excellent way to learn how to drive. Here are a few tips to help you get the most out of your driving lessons:

Wear Comfortable Shoes.

Before you head to the driving school for your lessons, you'll want to make sure you choose a comfortable pair of shoes. These shoes are the ones you will want to wear every time you go for your lessons. When choosing your shoes for class, make sure to select footwear with a flat and thin sole. This will ensure you can feel the response of the pedal and that the shoe doesn't get in your way as you move from the gas pedal to the brake pedal. Just remember that you may not necessarily get in the car on the first day of your lessons, but it doesn't hurt to be prepared just in case.

Don't Allow Your Mistakes to Haunt You Every Step of the Way.

As you embark on a new journey into a world of unknown, you are going to make mistakes. It is inevitable.

So, what you need to do is to prepare for the mistakes that you may make. Here are some of the most common mistakes that are made and how to avoid them:

  • Rolling Stops: All too common drivers will slow down at the stop sign but they will not come to a complete stop. Instead, they look both ways and, when it looks clear, they go ahead and go. Unfortunately, this doesn't mean that they came to a full stop. So, make sure that you stop completely and that the speedometer has reached zero before you push on the gas pedal.
  • Lack of Steering Control: While it is important to be confident during your driving lessons and during your test, it is also crucial that you avoid driving one-handed. You must keep both of your hands on the wheel. When turning, you should take one hand over the other hand so that they're both on the wheel.
  • Braking Too Hard: It may take some getting used to, but it is important to get a feel for the brakes in the car that you are driving. Some vehicles will have soft brakes while others will have hard brakes. When in an emergency situation, hard braking is acceptable. However, if you are driving regularly and simply slowing down for a stop sign or red light, you need to apply just enough braking to do just that and not throw you or your passenger forward.

Have Some Background Music On.

Although you won't want to do it right away, once you get the feel of things, you may want to consider turning up the music a little bit as you drive with a licensed driver in the car. After all, chances are you are going to have your music on when you're driving later on. Therefore, it helps to get used to driving with some background noise so you are imitating how you will be driving in the future once you complete the class, pass your driving test and receive your driver's license.
